Substances or materials are described as "biodegradable" if they can be broken down into smaller components by natural processes, e.g. bacteria or their enzymes, which then flow back into the earth´s natural life cycle. Before we make a statement about the biodegradability of a product, we have representative formulations tested by an independent institute in accordance with the guidelines of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development). Our Weleda definition: A product labelled as “biodegradable” meets the requirements of ready biodegradability according to OECD.
